  • What kind of cat to adopt (age/gender/breed)?

I'm looking for advice on what kind of cat to adopt.

We used to have two cats, both spayed females, one 3 and one 9 year old. The 9 year old passed away a few months ago, and we're now preparing to adopt again. The 3 year old is shy with humans. She seemed to like the older cat, but the older cat didn't like her and was much friendlier to humans.

We'd like to add another cat to the household, but don't want to make it, or the 3 year old, miserable.

I've read that a male kitten would be easiest to introduce to an adult (spayed) female. Does anyone here have experience with this or tips they can share?
