  • Which de-registration confirmation is needed to renew a German passport?

This is one of the documents needed for me to apply for new German passport:

"- Certified copy of the confirmation of deregistration from the German place of residence if it is entered in the current passport as the place of residence"

the problem: my passport was issued in Nagold, different than my last residence in Germany which is in Stuttgart city. Unlike my ID card, my passport was never updated with the later addresses. If I understand the requirement above correctly, I should be bringing confirmation from Nagold, am I right?

I have managed to obtain the confirmation of deregistration from Nagold, but it stated that I have moved to city of Stuttgart. I am confused as to which one I should hand with my application? Will that cause a problem?

    Thanks!

  • What's good Christmas gift for your cosmetologist?

For the past 6 months I've been going to this one cosmetologist at the spa nearby, for all my treatments. She always take the time to fill me in, and she waived the cancellation fees whenever I missed appoitments.

I wonder what can I give her for X-mas, something inexpensive considering I tip her very well each session, but it should be useful and/or showing my appreciation for her service.

    Thanks!

  • German custom on packages from the US?

I am going to send x-mas presents to my friend in Germany. Lots of toys for the kids, altogether maybe worth $200. I will wrap them separately in gift wraps but put together in a large box, and going to ship it via USPS.

Anyone can tell me what else should I do besides writing down that they are gift and the value on custom form? I'd like to make sure that my friend doesn't have to pay for tax or anything when she receive the gift.

  • Carnival and Infant?

I'm going to take a cruise with my baby. I know they have something going on for toddlers (2 years old and up) but I wonder if anyone know what is it for infants, I mean if they have official sitters or something like that?

I haven't booked the cruise yet, still wondering if it's a good idea to go just me and the baby.

    Thanks!

  • How does it work to sue someone?

How does it work to sue someone who doesn't have money? I was in a car accident few days ago, the other party was at fault, and she doesn't have insurance. I have police report for the incident.

Right now, I have to pay deductible from my car insurance to fix the car and pay the co-pay for my hospital bills from my own health insurance. People said, I can take the person to court later and sue her for everything including my hospital bills.

How could I possibly sue someone and get my money back when she didn't even have money to pay her car insurance? I have not talked to the lawyer since I was just discharged from the hospital last night, but I'm going to get one on Monday.

I need some help/ explanation as to what to do next so I can sleep this weekend. Thanks.

  • Problem with baby name?!?

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and have been keeping the name for our baby boy ultra secret. My husband and I picked that name 4 months ago as soon as we found out it's boy.

My friend is 18 weeks pregnant and last Monday she found out that she's also going to have a baby boy. She then emailed everybody that she's going to name the baby the same like our pick! She doesn't know we have named our baby with 'that'.

What should we do now? Change it, since nobody knew that the name was our pick first? I really love that name but people (or she) will think we steal her idea because we didn't tell anyone earlier. :( I'm really sad now.

  • Idea for housewarming gift?

I want to send my friend a housewarming gift besides the card. She has been so kind and sent me lots of stuff for my baby shower even she didn't attend.

Problem is, I don't have a lot of money to spend with the baby coming, and she has everything she needs for the house.

What can I get her? Something meaningful but not breaking my budget. Something around $100-150 (including shipping within US) will be ok.

    Thanks!

  • Stretch mark?

I'm 26 weeks pregnant, if I don't see any sign of stretch mark by now, is it safe to say I will not have it?

My mother gave birth to 5 kids and she never had stretch mark.

  • White outfit/clothes in Shanghai and Beijing?

Would it offend Chinese people if I'm wearing all white in public? How do they take foreigners wearing white outfit all the time? Can I still go to tourist places like that? I'll be there in summer and all my summer clothes are white!

  • When did you first start showing?

I really can't wait until my belly start showing that I'm pregnant. I'm on the 9th week and so far I looked like slightly overweight woman with flabby stomach (really, my stomach does get a bit bigger but it's not hard)! This is not the nicest time for me, I'm too fat for my regular clothes and still way too small for my maternity clothes. Actually this is a good excuse to buy new clothes one size bigger lol

  • Question for mothers (or to be) about sex of your babies?

Someone we know using this ancient chart for 6 of her girlfriend and all the results happened to be true.

    http://www.thelaboroflove.com/chart/cal.html

Would you like to try and tell me to prove it right/wrong with your case?

I'm only in the first trimester and I find this really interesting, but of course I'm not going to paint the nursery blue or pink based on this chart! :)

  • I have a German (EU) driver's license?

I got married and changed my last name and if I go back to Germany for a visit can I still drive with it? The last name will be different than my re-new passport. I asked the Buergeramt but they can't change my name because I no longer have an address/ registered anywhere in Germany. I just want to make sure I can use the Fuehrerschein legally whenever I'm there.

  • Is this legal?

Years ago my friend and spouse put my name on their will saying that I'm going to take care of their daughter if anything happen to the parents and I signed the agreement with a lawyer. Now my friend has 3 kids altogether and she said that if she and husband died, the kids are not supposed to be separated, that means I will be the one who take care of all of them.

Can she do that? I signed agreement for one child (complete name, DOB-- specifically for that child), nothing mentioned about agreeing to any future children. I would ask the lawyer but she is in Germany and on vacation for another 10 days (they are always on vacation!!) and I haven't said anything to my friend about my concern. Anyone can help me?

It doesn't have to be too specific, eventually I will have the real answer when she returns from her holiday. But I'm really curious if you think my friend can just tag the other kids along into my custody.

  • Is this immoral?

Eight years ago I agreed to be the godmother for my friend's only child and it's on the paper. I don't like the way my friend raise her daughter and the kid turned to be a brat, hyper, sometime sweet, but most of the time out of control.

Within the years my friend has two other kids and few months ago out of curiosity I was asking her who are their godparents. She said that siblings should not be separated after the parents death. Means, I'll be the one who take care all of them in case anything happen to the parents.

Fact is, I don't want to. All her children are hyper and out of control. I couldn't stand being around them more than two hours or I'm going nuts! We have spent holiday together abroad and I could tell how difficult they are. I can handle one, maybe, but not three ill mannered kids. I'd like to waive my rights and tell my friend she should ask someone else who are capable? I know I'm not. What should I do now?

  • Is this true?

That if a child was born in an aeroplane he/she will have free ride with that airline for life?

What would their nationality be if the plane was flying over an ocean? Would it be point of origin or point of destination?
