Hi, I just bought a new house, and I have an issue with the airflow upstairs.

The house is a two story, and the HVAC runs under the house, then up to the attic for the upstairs. Downstairs, there is great airflow - enough to ruffle your hair for example, but upstairs, there is poor airflow, you can kind of feel it on your cheek, but that's about it.

The house had an extra room finished and it has two registers. The original design of the house has two 10" ducts running up from under the house for sending and return air. Each connects to a metal box. The return register will hold a piece of paper in place, so I assume there's no issue with return air, just the cool/hot air coming from my HVAC unit.

The sending duct connects to a metal box that originally had four room registers. The ductwork is black and looks like it was maybe 4" or 6" diameter, but isn't labeled - if I measure the outer diameter, its about 26". When the extra room was added, two additional registers were placed in that room, and the ductwork is 8" (the 8" is about 32" diameter).

This seems like the reason my airflow is so low, but I'm not sure what I need to do to fix the problem, or if it even the real problem. Can anyone with HVAC experience tell me what the typical effects are of adding two registers to a box that already had four registers on it? As well, how big of an impact do the two 8" duct lines cause on airflow to the whole upstairs?
