How to update Yahoo account profile photo: 2015?
For some time now, the Yahoo folk have promised, “Someday my Prince will come…” (Oops, that’s someday you’ll be able to update your account photo from email preferences, because “Profiles” are “going away”.) Promises, schlomises. I surely would like to update an old profile pic. Does anyone, any great guru here, know of a slick way to gitter done? (Yep, FWIW, I went to my Account page and couldn’t edit it there.)
3 AnswersYahoo Profiles6 years agoYahoo Messenger no longer auto-reconnects. What's up?
I tried downloading a fresh copy, too. Used to be, whenever my connection went down, Yahoo Messenger might sign out, but then, it'd sign back on, on its own. Now, for the last couple months, it just sits there, waiting for me to click "Sign On". I was on DSL for awhile. It changed behaviors DURING my DSL customer stint. That is to say, this happened, WHILE I was still a DSL user: the messenger quit automatically signing on when the connection dropped and then quickly reconnected. Okay? Now that I'm a cable customer, the same thing happens. When the connection drops and then quickly reconnects, the messenger doesn't automatically logon by itself. It waits for me to click "Sign On". I hadn't changed any options...
I already have Yahoo Messenger set up to start automatically at system boot (which I do daily). Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I may do further to get Yahoo Messenger to reconnect automatically when there's a blip in the connection?
1 AnswerOther - Yahoo Messenger1 decade agoIn GOOG Chrome 5.0.375.86 on My Yahoo! my Today widget doesn't display...?
It shows this message:
OOPS content is not available, Click here to refresh.
...with a link at "here to refresh" leading to "javascript:void(0)"
This is the same link as on other browsers. But on Chrome the link yields no action. The Today widget yields no display.
I've tried reloading the page, and I've tried restarting the browser. I have javascript enabled, popups enabled, cookies enabled, and on, and on.
As I said, the widget displays properly in other browsers: Firefox, Webkit/Safari, Opera, Camino. This is all happening on MacOSX 10.6.4.
Does this happen to you, too? Hints?
1 AnswerOther - Yahoo Widgets1 decade agoYahoo! Mail "What's New" panel doesn't display correctly in Safari 5 on MacOSX 10.6.4?
I've tried with Firefox 3.6.4, Chrome 5.0.375.86, and Opera 10.60 Beta, and all works as expected: the "What's New" panel on Yahoo! Mail displays with the usual series of updates from me and my connections.
When I go to that tab in Safari 5.0 (or any later Webkit nightly) I get a brief presentation of the "What's New" panel contents. Then they disappear, and white space remains.
For what it's worth, the GLIMS plug-in is installed on Safari.
Sounds most assuredly like a Safari problem. Hint?
1 AnswerOther - Yahoo Mail1 decade agoWhy can't I get my image to show up on Yahoo! messenger?
I've tried, and tried, and tried! I've re-installed Messenger more than once, reloaded my image several times using 6 browsers (Safari, Firefox, Camino, Opera, Chrome, Internet Explorer) on two systems (MacOSX and Windows), and still cannot persuade the image to display in my Yahoo! Messenger! All I get is the blank grey right-facing profile.
Is there a better way? Or is this, the "nature of the beast"?
3 AnswersPreferences and Settings1 decade agoMy Yahoo! Messenger avatar isn't displaying correctly: how to troubleshoot?
My avatar used to display correctly on the Yahoo! Messenger widget. Recently (through no action of my own, of which I'm aware) all I get is the anonymous gray face, instead.
I tried reloading the image in Yahoo! Messenger. I also tried, reloading the (same) image to my Yahoo! profile. Just for the heck of it: I also tried rebooting the computer, so everyone would get a fresh start. (What the heck, nothing else to do on Tuesday night...) No luck.
Hints?
1 AnswerOther - Yahoo Messenger1 decade agoCars: US-owned companies versus foreign-owned companies?
I'd be glad to buy a US car if I knew that it were equal or better in quality (performance, cost, endurance over the years: cost-effectiveness) compared to a car from a foreign-owned company.
I've seen news reports, that some US companies have transferred manufacturing work overseas, to reduce costs, and to avoid the need to meet union requirements... thus depriving some US citizens of jobs (both manufacturing jobs, and resulting "supporting" industries - restaurants, groceries other services, etc. in surrounding neighborhoods).
I know also that many foreign-owned car companies have car-manufacturing facilities in the US - a Toyota plant near Georgetown, KY being just one example.
Therefore, when purchasing a car, the choice of a US-owned company versus a foreign-owned company may come down as much to whose owners get the money: the US owners, or the foreign owners.
Is there another advantage to buying a car from a US-owned company?
1 AnswerCorporations1 decade agoVista shutdown - how to do it?
Our two laptops have XP. Mi esposa's mom bought a laptop with Vista. I see MS decided NOT to put a "Turn Off Computer" in the menu for Vista. So far, all we've found is, a way to put the computer in some sort of hibernation. Is there a way to flat-out shutdown? (We've been powering off! Seems ungraceful. I'm P.O'ed at MS)
3 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoDo you miss the ORIGINAL Yahoo! yodeler?
I hadn't noticed until a couple days ago. Now Yahoo! has installed a chorus instead of Wylie Gustafson. I quickly downloaded a copy of the original yodel at http://ycorpblog.com/2009/04/20/meet-the-yahoo-yod...
Do you miss Wylie as I do?
1 AnswerOther - Yahoo Products1 decade agoPhotoshop: how to isolate a translucent spiderweb?
Note my avatar. I have a full-size (2288x1712) photo of the spider, its web, with a background showing window, frame, building. My *human eyes* can easily distinguish the web in the photo. Photoshop's "magic wand" cannot! I've tried various levels of "tolerance" to no avail. Is there another way to get rid of the background and be left with just the spider and the web?
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoHas anyone ever had repeating keys on Apple laptop?
Sometimes my keys repeat - annoying - like aaaaaaaaaaaa when I'm in the middle of typing something and the only way I can get it to stop is, to press the down arrow. Sometimes, it's the delete key. VERY annoying. The MBP is only a year old. Dirty keyboarddd? (See there? dddddd)

I always thought it was a noun. Yet I often hear and see it used as a verb these days!

How many hours (minutes? seconds?) a day do you spend away from a computer, thinking of things that have absolutely, positively nothing whatsoever to do with a computer in the least bit?

3 AnswersOther - Internet1 decade agoYo! Firefox users!?
Please remind me: what does Firefox have that I NEED?
I just "cut the cord" and quit Windows and converted to Mac. I've been using Safari. It's sleek and quick. I also have Firefox 3 RC1. It's quick, yes. Google has been ignoring it, so far as I can tell. Lots of "add-ons" ain't gonna work, or haven't, YET.
Safari works on my iPod Touch, too.
I used to use FF as a habit on my HP. (Mi esposa still does: she kept the HP.) Safari on my MBP seems every bit as quick as this new FF3. So, remind me. Why should I tolerate the wait?
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade ago"Green" question: does anyone know...?
What is the "environmental" cost of sending a piece (say, one sheet, in an envelope) of "snail mail" versus spending electricity to boot a computer and getting online (routers, ISP, ISP's server, emailer's server(s), recipient's server(s), recipient's computer, etc.) of sending an email?
(If no one here knows or may speculate, does anyone know where, e.g., a forum or news article, I may find such information?)
Just curious.

Or, say, if you want to gain some expertise in a certain field, could you REALLY meet some helpers YOU COULD TRUST? (And what about anonymity and security, too?)
4 AnswersFacebook1 decade agoCats drinking water - what is it?
Over the years, we've had five cats, plus various cats in the neighborhood who wander by. Given a choice of utterly fresh water in a bowl, and stale water - sunwarmed or winter-chilled - either in a bucket or in a watering can whose opening is near too small to admit a cat's head, cats will invariably chose the bucket or watering can???
