Is this a valid argument against my father?
I am a college student who just finished his freshman year. From the moment I got home, I torrented several seasons of some anime and started watching it 24/7 like I was on a mission to finish the series (I was). My dad doesn't like me doing this, and figures it's a waste of my time and tries to limit my time watching it. He doesn't understand the reason behind it (it's because it's summer and I have nothing better to do during the summer (I start working next week tho)).
Some background info:
My father grew up in India. He didn't have what I had because he had a widowed mother (when my father was toddler), and their financial status wasn't exactly on par with middle class, but it wasn't lower class either. My grandmother had to work to pay for my dad's education. So, basically, every waking moment in his teenage years was geared towards his education.
My interpretation of his teenage years with a widowed mother is this: He grew up without a paternal model, and with a mindset of a singular parental force who had no check/balance (his dad).
Whose side would you pick? Do you think my dad is in the wrong, or am I?
Thanks in advance for your input.
1 AnswerFamily9 years agoCheat a prepackaged ice cream vending machine?
I have this ice cream vending machine in my college dorm's basement common area. Do you suppose, if one night, I went down there when nobody was there to cheat the machine. I can do it by pulling the plug on the machine for about 2-3 hours. after that, plug it back in and let it refreeze. Then when I pay for it, and the sucker gets the product out, two or more can stick together.

3 AnswersOther - Electronics9 years agoWhat could I use a second graphics card for (except for additional displays)?
I fixed up a graphics card I found with a blown capacitor. The specs are kinda average, so I'm obviously not going to be playing Crysis on it. What could I possibly use it for (maybe a data processor of some kind)?
It's the ATi 9250 256MB PCI card.
GFX card specs:

3 AnswersDesktops9 years agoRealistically, should I have "for-life" expectations if I get a girlfriend?
Let me put this out there. I tend to get attached to people. I am a college student who has never had a girlfriend, but I'm not looking very actively either. I'm not the type to "sleep around", so don't suggest trying a one-time fling with a girl to see how it goes. I know love is not automatic or perfect, but I want to minimize the amount of heartbreaks.
Thanks.
8 AnswersSingles & Dating9 years agoCan I overclock a CPU higher (strictly multiplier-based) by disabling or underclocking some cores?
I recently watched a video on the AMD FX series, and it has the capability to turn off half the cores and boost the frequency of the other cores way past normal speeds in order to not exceed the TDP. I have also heard that most processors have an automatic shutoff in case of a predicted TDP overload.
I have the AMD Phenom II 1090T, and I wish to overclock it past Turbo speeds. (my turbo speeds bump 3.2GHz stock to 3.6GHz on all cores). It always crashes past 3.6GHz. I have bumped up the CPU voltage a bit when trying to OC past that, but it didn't do anything.
Thanks.
2 AnswersDesktops10 years agoHow would I make stronger herbal tea when using teabags?
It just doesn't seem like the full flavor is coming through. Instead of microwaving water, and then dipping it, should I do it on a stove and boil it with the teabag in the water?
Or should I agitate it more to get the liquid flowing through?
Thanks

I am trying to duplicate chrome's isolation technique so that I can terminate a tab manually from Task Manager if it's misbehaving.
1 AnswerSoftware10 years agoWhat do you think of this love letter?
Here is the link to the letter (it's a poem).
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TLS_x7gDSMGWsV...
To provide a little more perspective, I am a college freshman who fell in love with a high school freshman girl last year. I'm about an hour and a half away from home, living on campus. I wrote a love letter to her before, but she said she wasn't ready for a relationship and a commitment. This letter's purpose is to tell her I'll be waiting for her. It's not lust, so don't gimme that.
Also, don't give me crap about how 'creepy' or 'lame' it might be for a college guy to date down. I am one of those few who won't take advantage of a younger girl.
Thanks in advance, internet folks.
4 AnswersSingles & Dating10 years agoHow would I develop a deep and meaningful relationship in college?
What seems to be the trend in college is to sleep with many women and have a good time. What I am looking for is a girl who would most probably be my good friend for a bit, and then get out of that zone. Also, I would probably shy away from simply asking out any girl that I fancy. How could I get started in these kind of matters and what should I look for?
Thank you.
1 AnswerSingles & Dating10 years agoWhat is this bump on my thigh?
This bump on the underside of my thigh keeps going away and then reappearing. It's painful when I squeeze it or push on it. Is it a boil or something? I am not sexually active, so it isn't a side effect of an STD.
4 AnswersSkin Conditions10 years agoMy dorm roommate (we are both freshmen) is drinking 80 proof alcohol (vodka) in the dorm. What should I do?
He doesn't have a drinking problem though. Is this just the way college works? Drinking underage? I have tried reporting it, and the RA said they couldn't do anything about it unless it became a real problem. I'm just worried about his health. I, personally, have never had any alcohol. His friends drink also. Is this a normal college practice?
10 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits10 years agoIs it possible to put the LCD glass from a computer monitor just by itself on a wall?
I am aware that one would have to have the LCD screen controller hidden away somewhere along with the circuitry connected to it (possibly behind a layer of spackle or drywall). Would this be a good idea, or would it not work?
2 AnswersMonitors10 years agoHow does the FiOS Set-Top Box Cache TV?
I know that it writes to a 160GB Hard drive. I could see it through the vent holes. But does it have an internal ssd or something that caches writes? I calculate that if the raw video's data rate is about 9 Megabytes/sec (not accounting for the audio's bitrate), it would fill up in about 4-5 hours. And if it IS stored on the hdd in some kind of purgatory file format, how do I go about obtaining the file?
Thanks.
1 AnswerTiVO & DVRs1 decade agoHow to deal with a clingy geek friend?
My friend, Ben, is kind of clingy. He also sort of idolizes me and wants to be kind of like me. He says he's all technological and geeky; although the fact that he states his father is in the CIA sounds like a load of BS to me. He sometimes calls me up to help him make recommendations for fixing computers. I mean, If he knows SOOOO much about computers, why doesn't he fix them himself. Personally, I just think that he is just trying to impress me.
Oh, and I forgot to add, (not to be mean or anything) but he has pimples all over his face and a unibrow, and he's a freshman (i'm a senior, if that matters). How do I let him down gently without hurting his feelings. He seems to have been mistreated at his previous school (probably for the way he looks and possibly acts).
3 AnswersFriends1 decade agoAre most computer desktop cases conductive?
I built my own computer, and I neglected to
1. check (when ordering parts) whether the desktop was made out of a non-conductive material or coated with non-conductive paint
2. put standoffs in to lift the motherboard from the case.
Just to be sure, I checked the conductivity with a multimeter, and it didn't beep (infinite resistance). Should I be OK? I have been OK thusfar (2 months).
4 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoIs it possible to overclock this Phenom CPU even more?

This is the AMD Phenom II 1090T BE in its overclocked state of 3.8GHz. Using only multiplier-based overclocking, how can I overclock this more without bluescreens? I have used a calc to adjust the CPU Voltage and make sure that the CPU hasn't exceeded its rated wattage of 130W. Can you help?
