  • What's Next?

So, now that "the fight of the century" is over are boxing fans looking forward to the future? Past September 12th or 19th? Seriously do fans think the Mayweather's exit from the sport will hurt or help it in the long run?

  • How many here think tht Juan Ma needs to retire?

He is an exciting fighter whose power makes him dangerous in most fights, see De Leon, however, he is too prone to taking hard shots and getting rocked as he did in his last several fights including De Leon. I for one wish Juan Ma a safe and lucrative retirement. What say you all?

  • What drives your like/dislike of certain boxers?

We all have reactions to boxers and become fans, enemies, and/or begrudging respecters of certain ones. I just want to have a hopefully mature and respectful dialogue about what makes you/others have the reactions you have. Notably, there are rivalries between Pacquiao & Mayweather, Golovkin & anyone he hasn't faced at 160-8, Khan, Broner, and others.

Bonus: Is it impossible for you to see the talent/qualities in the rival of your favorite fighter?

  • Who should Terrace Crawford fight next?

He seems to have all the tools to dominate at 135, which is not saying too much since it is such a weak division now that Broner is gone, but still, the guy has good defense, can take a punch, can box as a counter puncher, and showed on Saturday that he can be aggressive and make things happen when he needs to. I am not ready to crown him the next big thing yet because he hasn't faced any of the top competition, but who do you think he should fight next?

I think that he needs to step up to the big leagues in the next fight. Perhaps a major gate keeper like Ricardo Abril? Maybe a rugged and dangerous puncher like DeMarco? Should he challenge Vasquez and take the belt? Could he?

  • Kessler, sour grapes?

So I am looking forward to Kessler-Froch 2. I think that the first fight was good and the second will be action packed. I did however notice a few digs at the CHAMP Andre Ward in the blog Kessler is using to hype the fight. Is Kessler still upset about his loss to Ward? Is he justified? Am I crazy to read his statements as digs on Andre?

  • What did you think of Terrence Crawford?

He fought on the under card of Rios-Alvarado II as a last minute replacement against Breidis Prescott. He seems to have very decent skills and decent pop. People were booing, but because they were the type of "boxing fan" that wanted to see two guys just flail and beat the crud out of each other. This guy stepped up to 140 from his usual 135 and put on a clinic against the tough veteran Prescott. I would like to see him against the top 135 pound fighters and then up at 140.

  • Is Gary Russell Jr. confident or cocky?

According to Dan Ambrose's blog Gary Russell Jr. called out Juan Manuel Lopez, said he'd beat Gamboa, and also that Adrien Broner was a one dimensional fighter with flaws.

    http://www.boxingnews24.com/2012/07/russell-jr-id-...

I think that Russell is fine to call out Lopez. Juan Ma is a fan friendly but very flawed fighter. He has been rocked numerous times and I think Russell can out box him fairly easily. Gamboa would be a bit tougher but mainly because he is bigger and stronger. He is also beatable. Broner does have some flaws. He is a bit easy to hit, but hasn't really been hurt in a fight so I would say that Gary Jr. is just jockeying safely on that one.

I think that Ambrose's analysis of Russell Jr. is way off, bordering on hackish. What do you all think?

We've got Alvarez-Trout, Mares-Ponce De Leon, Brook-Alexander (hopefully), Peterson-Matthysse, among others coming in the spring and early summer.

  • Will Mayweather come out of jail mentally damaged?

With the recent news about Mayweather's request for home confinement and information that he is refusing some food and water. Do you think that he will come out of his remaining 80 plus days in jail damaged psychologically?

I was thinking about fighters like Bernard Hopkins who spent time in jail before he became a legend, Mike Tyson who was arguably messed up before he went to jail, but came out a shadow of his former self, then you have Bozelle who was never able to have the boxing career he wanted because of a wrongful conviction, but came out, positive and won his first and only pro fight.

Comparing Hopkins to Mayweather is difficult because as I said earlier, Hopkins went in before he made it big and Mayweather was put in at the top of his game. I think however that it is a testament to B-Hop's mental toughness that he was able to reform his life, never re-offend, and become one of the great middleweights of all time.

Do you think that jail can have a positive effect on Mayweather? Will it destroy his career? or Is it much ado about nothing?
