  • Can you help me with a bread machine convsersion?

I have a bread machine that makes a 1 kg or 1.3 kg loaf. I'm trying to bake a 1.3 kg loaf following a particular recipe, but the recipe is for a 1 kg loaf.

As I'm not particularly good at math, I'm trying to get a bit of help with the conversion of ingredients... I just need to know if I need to multiply all of the main ingredients or just the water/flour and I need to know what to multiply by...

  • Heading to a hotel that doesn't allow coffee makers in rooms...?

My fiancée and I are heading to a hotel in the mountains that neither has nor allows coffee makers or microwaves in the rooms... This is a problem for me.

I don't sleep much, and I tend to drink a lot of coffee before daylight, so I'm trying to find a solution... Unfortunately, google and yahoo are both completely clogged with completely irrelevant entries and/or ads for alibaba...

I'm hoping the Yahoo! community can help me out... I'm looking for a device that will actually heat cold water for me, and is either battery or USB powered. It's not good enough to simply keep it warm, but I need to actually be able to heat it up in a relatively short time...

    Any suggestions?

  • Windows 7 Bootmgr missing on dual boot machine. Is this a problem?

I'm running win7 on my main hdd, and Ubuntu Ultimate-Edition 3.4 on another, and I don't have my Windows installation disks.

I'm about to create a recovery disk from my fiancee's Vaio, but I need to know if fixing Windows is going to cause any problems with my Ubuntu installation. I realize this is a rather ignorant question, but I am rather ignorant of Ubuntu having used it for only about 2 weeks, now.

All I'm wanting to do is fix Windows so I can dual boot again until I'm ready to wipe it completely and make the switch to Ubuntu permanent.

BTW... I'm considering the possibility that a recovery disk from the Vaio could be the wrong thing for me to do/use (since it comes with all kinds of Vaio specific things, I'm not sure about this, as I've never been in this situation before) so if you have any advice concerning this as well, I would greatly appreciate the extra assistance :)

  • I'm about to install Linux... Can you advise me?

I'm finally tired of Windows, but I have very little experience with any version of Linux. I've been using Ubuntu 12.04 along side Win7 for a few days, but I don't have the proper incentive to really learn Ubuntu as long as I have Windows running, so I'm looking to completely reformat and install... Some version of Linux.

I have a good computer. It's a frankenstein, but all the components are pretty new. Dual core 3.4 GHz Intel processor, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 520, one 250GB SATA hdd and one 150GB hdd and I've been running Win7 Ultimate with no trouble.

I spend a huge chunk of my life in front of my computer, playing games, working with programs like Photoshop and Blender, watching movies and tv shows, listening to audio books and reading and, of course, surfing.

The problem I'm having with making the switch is the rather extreme variety. I find that too much choice can be as big a problem as too little, and I have no clue what version would be best for me, so I could use some advice.

I could also use a bit of advice on how to go about reformatting my main hdd for whichever version you recommend. I intend to burn a disk (so I'll need to find or create a bootable version) rather than use a flash drive.

Thus far, I have Ultimate-Edition, Mint and Ubuntu (all the most recent releases) and I'm more than willing to download something else and, I'm considering the possibility of installing multiple versions to play around with until I decide on one, but advice would be helpful either way. But I MUST remove Windows, or I'll never really get into the new OS... I need to take that particular option away to motivate myself lol.

  • New to Ubuntu... Can you help?

I'm attempting to install Java for Linux on Ubuntu Unity, but I have absolutely zero clue how to do this. This is, quite literally, my first day on Linux. I've been trying to do many things like change themes, run driver tools etc, but I can't even find System>Preferences, so please be as clear and throrough as you possibly can be... And I won't be offended at all if you talk down to me a bit... It may actually help lol.

  • Can I make flour tortillas in a Teflon skillet?

I'm more concerned with the skillet than the potential health issues...

I'm wanting to make some flour tortillas today, and I was wondering if it would be ok for the skillet for me to use Teflon, since flour tortillas aren't supposed to be made with any oils or anything. I've cooked a lot in Teflon, but I've never cooked anything dry so I have no experience with it...

  • What kind of bread should I bake?

I have some friends coming over tonight and I'm serving cold chicken, roasted peppers, black olives, figs and such with the centerpiece being several well aged cheeses. I would like to bake some bread, biscuits or similar, but I'm not sure what would be best. I know I don't want pitas or tortillas, and sourdough is out of the question, unfortunately...

  • ADSL works but cable Broadband doesn't?

I have the benefit of having 2 ISPs right now as I wait for one to be disconnected. I've been using a 16Mb ADSL connection but I never reached the speed I was paying for and the ISP was no help in my attempts to improve it. When I moved to a new apt I found that I could get a faster and cheaper Cable connection, so I decided to switch. The problem now is that my cable connection is all but dead. I have internet connectivity, but I can't seem to actually connect to anything. The only thing I can come up with (with my EXTREMELY limited knowledge) as a possible reason for the issue is a serious latency issue... I've gone to pingtest.net with both routers from both ISPs and my ADSL connection giving me ZERO packet loss, while my Cable connection is hitting 100% packet loss most of the time, with 87% being the best result out of 10 tests.

My computer is a bit of a Frankenstein, pieced together from quite a few other machines and used parts, but it works well and the only truly antique part I have is the dual core processor. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate and the new router (belonging to the troubled connection) is a Cisco EPC3925 WiFi router, that I connect to via Ethernet cable.

I followed the advice I got here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuWLX... but I'm not sure what to do about it... When I pinged the IP address, I had no problems and no packet loss, but when I pinged www.yahoo.com, I couldn't connect (I don't remember exactly what it said, but I do know that it couldn't seem to find yahoo with the url) at all. I chanced the DNS info for the connection to try using the Google Public DNS, but that didn't help either and my ISP for the Cable connection insist that there's no problem on their end...

Any help would be appreciated, and feel free to talk down to me a bit, as I'm really pretty ignorant with this stuff...

    Thanx

  • High latency - 100% packet loss - Can you help?

I have a new UPC Broadband connection in Prague, Czech Republic and I'm using a Cisco EPC3925 Wifi router and a computer running Windows 7 Ultimate connected via Ethernet..

My Ethernet connection to my PC is all but dead. I have a 120Mb connection but I'm getting nothing. The only problem I can find is the latency issue, though. I have sites blacking out with "connection has been reset" "server not found" (sites like yahoo.com and google.com) and "timed out" messages, among others.

I have zero clue how to fix this and I'm not finding much in the way of helpful information online, nor am I getting much from the ISP since their English is limited and my Czech is virtually non-existent...

I need to fix this, and would appreciate any assistance... And, feel free to talk as if you're talking to an ignorant newb since, where these issues are concerned, I am...

  • New Graphics card install, massive resolution problems?

I just bought an Nvidia GeForce GT 520 Graphics card and now my screen resolution is seriously messed up... It's currently set to 1600 by 900 and I can't change it back to anything more... Normal. I'm downloading the newest drivers for my card now, but I thought I'd ask now, just in case it didn't help... I'm rather ignorant of this tech, so feel free to talk down to me when giving advice :) lol

I'm looking for an affordable router that will allow a wired connection to my PC and wireless from my Vaio and Android cellphones...

I just got a Creative HS-1200 headset which is wireless and charges via usb connection. Unfortunately, I appear to be incapable of using my speakers while my headset is charging. Is there some setting I can change to fix this?

  • My puppy is not vocalizing when she needs to go out... Suggestions?

She's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and she's just not very vocal. She's highly intelligent and has picked up every command I've taught her with extraordinary ease. She goes to the door when she needs to go out, but if I'm not watching her, she ends up peeing on the doorstep.

It's been my experience that scolding a dog is only of limited help and I see no reason or point in raising my voice when she's trying... I just need to get her to give me a bark or whine when she gets to the door. Everything else is fine. Any suggestions?

  • What kind of graphics card should I look for?

I have a bit of a Frankenstein system that I've pieced together and it runs pretty good so far, but I'm looking to upgrade a bit at a time, and now I'm ready to work on graphics. Here's what I have to work with:

    Motherboard: MSI P7N Platinum

    http://us.msi.com/product/mb/P7N-SLI-Platinum---P7...

CPU: Intel Pentium D 945, 3.4 GHz Dual Core, 4M Cache, 800MHz FSB.

    http://ark.intel.com/products/27520/Intel-Pentium-...

    RAM: 5GB

Current Graphics: ASUS Nvidia GeForce 8400GS

    http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/NVIDIA_Series/E...

I'm wondering about 2 things... What graphics card could my current system actually handle, and would it be possible with this Motherboard, to run dual graphics cards (not that I'm actually overly interested in doing so... Just wondering if I could lol)?

  • Can you help me fix my internet connection?

My normal internet connection speed usually holds around 5Mbps down and about .5Mbps up.

A few days ago, my computer crashed and I had to reinstall Windows (XP SP3). I did so, and got online and did my normal news and surf thing while I downloaded drivers, software updates etc. Things worked fine at that point. I even downloaded and installed DDO and went into the game for a bit. Later that day, I got a 250GB Seagate and decided to install Windows on that one and use my 160GB PATA as a backup. The installation went fine and, for a few minutes, everything seemed ok. My first few driver updates came down pretty fast. I started downloading all of my Firefox support tools (flash, shockwave etc.) and everything went sideways. For some reason my Adobe installers kept shutting down at around 10% and I could barely get online.

According to Speedtest.net, my connection speed was around .009Mbps down and around .2 up, and it's been that way for the past 30 hours or so, and I have no clue what the problem could be.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

  • Can you help me make some soy granule patties?

I'm new to cooking with soy and, while I've found many recipes, I can't seem to figure out how to make patties that will hold together... I've soaked the granules I have in broth and have mixed them with various ingredients including oats, egg, egg substitute, milk and more, but they just won't stick together in patty form. I'm trying to make something I can grill for hamburgers.

I don't mind using vegetarian or vegan ingredients, as long as I can find them in Prague, but I am not a vegan or vegetarian, so meat products will also work for me...

    Thanx in advance...
