  • Can a device plugged into your computer be turned on by a remote computer?

If i have a device plugged into a USB port (as a power source only, no other connection to computer or software), can someone out on the web turn it on remotely? We hear these days about web cams being turned on by hackers, can anything else be turned on too? If not, what's the difference?

Along those lines, can a computer be shut off by a remote signal?

I'm just curious how this works.

    Thanks.

P.S. The remote computers are not part of any connected network. Both computers are totally independent.

  • Can I soften my coarse graying hair?

I have a question about graying hair. I've noticed that it tends to be thicker and stiffer and coarser than my normally fine brown hair. Is there a way to soften the gray hairs so they aren't so stiff? I don't have too much hair any more and the gray is mostly on my temples.

    Thanks.

  • What clippers do a good job of cutting fine hair?

I'm at that age when I don't have much hair anymore so I trim my own hair but I find that after about a year or two my new electric clippers begin to have trouble cutting the hair and when they do, they leave the ends ragged and bent. I've taken care of the clippers but I see the hair go right through them without getting cut. My hair tends to be fine. Is there a brand of clippers that is better than the usual brands found in your average drug store? Preferably not too expensive. I think I paid $35 for my current clippers. Are professional clippers the way to go?

    Thanks

  • Trouble displaying saved webpages from IE?

Recently I cleaned and reorganized files and I apparently changed something so that now many of the webpages I've saved over the years will not display for me.

When I double-click an "mht" file I get a message that "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage." It's not a connection problem. Until recently they always displayed whether I was online or off. "Htm" files do still work, but many saved files are not in this format.

Sometimes clicking on an "mht" file will give me an error message "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has resticted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls that could access your computer. Click here for options." Clicking gives me the option to allow the blocked content, but the page still does not display. Sometimes an "mht" file will show this message and display a lot of HTML code or an unformatted webpage and I can't get them to display correctly either.

In addition, new pages can only be saved as "htm" files. If I try "mht", I get a message saying the page cannot be saved. I will have a file for it, but it is an empty file.

I typically save pages by clicking on File\Save As...

This has worked for years, all this started recently, but I don't know what I changed to cause it. I've tried clicking on Tools\Internet options... but I don't see anything recognizable as a solution.

    I have Windows XP, SP2; IE 8

    Anybody have suggestions?

  • Would DMSO help plant cells absorb organic and inorganic nutrients?

Does DMSO increase the permeability of plant cell walls as it does in animals? I'm wondering if using a little when I foliar feed my plants will help the plants absorb nutrients. These are not food plants and I'm using non-burning organic nutrients (humates, seaweed extract), not plain fertilizer. I'm not finding much info online.
