What is the most compelling argument against an absolutist interpretation of the First Amendment?
"Congress shall make no law..."
These words start the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black argued that "no law means no law", and that Congress isn't allowed to make ANY rules which limit freedom of speech.
No other justice has come close to agreeing with Justice Black, despite the actual text of the amendment. What are the most compelling reasons?
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics1 decade agoHmong/Interracial Relationships?
I've been dating a Hmong girl for about three months, and things are going well. It's a little early to start thinking about it, but I'm wondering how a potential marriage would be accepted by her family. I am white, and from the sense I get from her and her friends, it is still highly encouraged to marry a Hmong man.
Are there any (non) Hmong people out there that have married into a Hmong family? Did it work? Did you adopt a Hmong courtship/wedding? Any stories or advice would be helpful...
As a side note, I have met her family (her extended family as well), and they seem to like me. Her last boyfriend was white, so I think they may be accepting to me. If you need any other info, please let me know...
Thanks!
13 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoBooks about Lacanian psychology?
I am studying critical legal theory, and I find the work of Jacques Lacan interesting, yet challenging. Does anyone know other theorists who use/interpret Lacanian psychlogy?
I know Slaovj Zizek, Judith Butler, and Lee Edelman. Does anyon have any more? Can anyone recommend a book that does a good job of simplifying Lacanian psychoanalysis (for someone without an extensive background in psychology)?
1 AnswerPsychology1 decade agoIs it possible to earn an associates degree (an A.A) if you already have a bachelor's degree (a B.A.)?
I have two degrees, one in Economics and the other in Political Science. I'm in law school, and I'm planning on becoming a professor, but I'm interested in having a background in other subjects (mainly psychology).
Does anyone know if I could get an A.A. in psychology at the local community college if I already have a more advanced degree?
