  • S/XUV Manufacturer's Rally?

Does anybody think it'd fly if there were a series of competitions where almost stock X/SUV's raced against the clock, rally-style? (The only things I was thinking of being upgraded was tires & rims, air intake & including cat conv. back) It'd give the champs bragging rights on their machines, as well as driver's skill.

This would allow anyone to enter their SUV, from the older Kia Sportage to Mercedes G series, it would be based on size/weight classes (compact SUV, mid-size SUV, full-size SUV), and the vehicles would have to meet safety standards before entering. Barriers to entry would be pretty much non-existent, and if racers wanted to smash their trucks up recklessly, then tow trucks would be available to transport the disabled vehicle.

The fact that no roll-cages/restraint system, nor engine management systems (electronic speed limiter, TCS) modifications can be made would hopefully keep the races somewhat safe, and vehicles would have to be licensed to drive on public roads.

If there are any car club members that might be able to shed more light on this, please feel free to comment.

And yes, constructive criticism is welcomed, in case you think it's the dumbest idea you've ever heard.

So, I guess the questions are:

    -think it'd fly?

-how would one organize something like this (assuming that a farmer was willing to provide the land, liability issues?)

-would you enter something like this?
