  • Allergy question about Boxer?

16 week old Boxer, has had mild hives in the past on his belly. Those were stress-related (appeared after the vet and when separated from me for lengthy periods of time).

Thursday morning, he was covered in whelps, basically head to toe, and had scratched an area raw. Was given injections of steroid, benadryl, and antibiotics. Sent home with cephalexin 2x daily. This morning, he was worse, itchy all over.

I have not changed his food since he came home at 8wks. Haven't changed detergents or household cleaners. I am at a loss. Nothing has changed in his environment. Vet says it is unlikely we will figure out what is causing this.

    Any recommendations/personal experience out there?

  • Any tips on how to keep my Boxer from digging?

He's 14 weeks old, and of course, very active. I have other dogs that he plays with in my home and yard. But sometimes, he digs at the fence line trying to get to my neighbor's dogs. (neighbor's dogs dig as well, there was a "tunnel" between the yards-thank goodness they play well together.) We have re-filled the holes, some with concrete, but they just move to a new location and dig away! I've read that boxers like sand boxes, would it really help, though?

  • Are ther any DVM's available to talk about anemia in my boxer puppy?

He is 11 weeks old, and went in today to have his ears cropped. The surgery was postponed due to anemia. He has been put on vitamins for two weeks and they will re-test at that time. I have read about autoimmune hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia and wonder is there anything else I should request from my vets as testing. There is no history in the pedigree of any anemia. He eats puppy chow-large breed formula, and all activity is normal. Should I have them look for something else?
