How does one derive a=v^2/r?
In a lesson on uniform circular motion, our physics teacher taught us that the acceleration of an object moving in a circle was velocity squared over radius (a=v^2/r). He didn't explain how this formula was derived telling us it involved calculus which was beyond the scope of the class. However, I am taking a calculus class at my school and so I would like to know how this formula was derived.
