3 AnswersAir Travel8 years agoNeed Surfboard advice!! getting a custom board shaped and would appreciate your thought or experiences?
Ok so I have been surfing for a bit over a year now. started out on an old 8'8". thing is fun and i still ride it, it has a 2+1 set up and I use my 9" california classic fin. this is my go to board when the surf is over 6 foot. on the regular I have a classic 10 foot log single hatchet fin. I am trying to perfect nose riding. I surf southern cali so as anybody from around here knows we generally have smaller surf. but occasionally we can get into the double over head region.
just in case this helps i have ridden some 8 footers on my 10 footer before and the same with my 8'8". both are sketchy as f*ck
i have surfed plenty of smaller boards but never perchased one, now its time. the surf industry insists we must have many boards for many different sized waves, im not buying it. tell that to greg noll who was charging waimea bay on an 11'6" in the lat 50's!
so what i think want and need is something 6'2" x 21 1/2" x 2 3/4"
i want somewhat of a fuller nose. i have a good idea of what i want and i think i am going to get it as a quad with a longboard fin box so that i may use and a single or thruster on bigger days and a twin or quad for the smaller ones.
now where i am stuck is the tail shape. people say diamond, others say swallow, squash, pin, rounded pin... so on and so fourth.
now that you know what i am using it for and what not please help me decide on a tail design.
oh and i am 16, 155 lbs, and 6' tall
thanks i would appreciate any advice.
