Leftwondering

Eight years ago, I met and began dating a wonderful guy who lived a few states away. He was working his way up to be a professional race car driver. The relationship was brief due to his lack of free time, but we had a very hot and passionate nine months together. We parted as friends, but kept in touch through a mutual connection. Later, I began dating another guy in my hometown who is everything that I could ask for in a partner. Two years after we parted, the old flame contacted me to tell me his racing career would be bringing him closer to my hometown. I got the idea that he wanted to reconnect. We still talk and see each other via our mutual friend, and every time I run into my old flame, I feel like we never broke up. Back when we dated, I never said "I love you", even though I had fell HARD for him. Now I am wondering what would have been for us if I had. I've never cheated on my current boyfriend and don't plan to. But I can't shake the "what if's" from the old relationship.
