Looking at many of the questions and answers here, it's shocking to see how little right-wing Americans really know about either socialism or Europe. The number of times I've had to read here that the currect crisis in Europe is 'proof that socialism has failed' is staggering, as it shows that many really have no clue what the crisis is really all about, and that 'socialism' has very little to do with it, if anything.

Reading things here would have you believe that all of Europe is on fire, and us Europeans are living under a communist regime. The word 'socialism' is dropped all the time as a way to scare people, and Obama is painted as sort of a wannabe communist who wants to turn the US into the next Soviet Russia. In one breath, modern capitalist Europe is thrown in with communist states to 'show that socialism failed', as if they're even remotely comparable.

Is education in the US really that bad that such ignorance is so widespread, or are the right-wing media such as Fox News partly to blame?
