So I've been making some minor mods to my friends business website; little changes like text and pics. I don't know much html and nothing of java script although I do know the site has some .js files.   I noticed firefox displays a yellow "insecure" triangle next to the URL.

Can anyone explain to me the basics of "securing a website." Do I have to purchase something to do that? When I look it up and I get are offers to sell me something called SSL.  This in not an e-commerce site, just a basic description of my friends consulting services.   In fact the only reason for modifying it at all is because there were a few flash animations. I have replaced them with still images but I have not deleted the old .swf (flash) files. Should I?

Can I use multiple voltage regulators in parallel if I need more current that 1  7805 can handle?    

So I want to built a Lithium Ion batter power supply with multiple D.C. output voltages. And one of the devices will require upto 3 amps.  But from the couple of voltage regulators I have seen, they are probably not rated for even one amp. Can I gang several of them together in parallel until I reach the current I need? 

Or is there a different grade of voltage regulator I should be looking for?

I was considering buying on of these for use with my S-C Telescope. I saw someone online doing a quick demonstration but they never mentioned whether it needs to be exactly centered or not. Just curious.

I started thinking about the gravatational relationship between the Earth and moon and wether that might have an influence on the Earth s core so as to maybe stirr things up. Maybe that has something to do with the magnet energy being generated. That I thought about the rest if the inner planets. None of them have a large magnetic field like we do and none of them have a large satellite like we do. But both Jupiter and Saturn which have large magnetic fields also have large satellites. So I just wanted to see if this makes sense that there might be a correlation?

So I've seen lots of rainbows. And on more than one occasion, I've seen a ring around the moon and even around the sun at mid day. What I don't understand is why these rings around the moon or sun don't appear prismatic like I would expect them to be.

I live in an area where I am told you can t get the TV channels from the neighboring city because of a mountain ridge in between. But just out of curiosity, I bought an indoor antenna anyways. It s an apartment so an outdoor antenna is not an option.

The results were interesting. I found that I can receive many channels, most if them in fact, if I hold the antenna placing my hand at a specific spot on the base. But if I set the antenna in the exact same position and angle but I m not touching it, suddenly the signal dries up. I know the body can have various grounding and capacitive effects but I don t understand why they can t build a better antenna building in whatever it is my body is doing.

It occurred to me that there is only so much energy in the atmosphere and if we capture a percentage of it with wind turbines, we are lowering the total energy of the weather system. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I mean, one might argue that its a good thing. That less overall energy means less or weaker storms perhaps. But I keep thinking less cooling breezes moving horizontally will create more vertical air movement rising up to form thunderstorms.

Opinions?

I have Win 8.1 and Firefox 39 on a Dell Inspiron 15 (AMD A6). I have had the same results on Internet explorer. It seems like whenever I am typing away at an email for more than 20-30 minutes, it all just grinds down to a halt, the cursor stops blinking and as I type the screen only updates ever few seconds. Corrections are a *****. As is emptying my spam and deleted folders.

If I had to guess, I would suspect the problem is an ad that Yahoo is running every so often, some script going wild. Once it happens the only thing I can do is close the browser and relaunch it.

I have tried to post a question as a joke - nothing profane - but anyone in that category will get it because they have seen similar questions by the thousands. BUT, my question has been rejected several times by claims that the server to too busy. So this question is being posted as a test. If Answers accepts this, I will know it was purposefully rejecting my other question.

I took a few scum samples from a distant lake and looked at one of them when I got home. It was vibrant with algae and paramecium and diatoms and other unidentified swimming objects.

Sadly, within just 2 weeks everything died. I know I washed the jars thoroughly and believe no soap remained in them.

Is there something I should/could have done that would have kept them alive longer? I did not leave them in direct sunlight since the samples were from a very shady swamp.

Incase this is a clue; In one jar, the water turned blue in just the top half of the jar.

Why don't the various elements of the atmosphere separate out or stratify based on atomic weight? I would expect the gravity v.s. air pressure would cause the heavier elements to settle to the ground and lighter elements to be pushed out of the way. Isn't it true that hydrogen would just float out into space?

In my uninformed opinion (I am not a physicist or mathematician), the multiverse is a logical leap to far. If String theory requires the multiverse, then for me; that disproves string theory. I'm curious to get your opinions on the matter.

I've heard rumblings lately that string theory is coming unraveled and was curious what you folks think about the whole multiverse. In your opinion, does it stand alone regardless of string theory? Or does it fall by the wayside too?

I m not even sure it was McDonnalds but I think it was. Sometime around 1970, I remember going to 1 or 2 of these; they called it a Carnival or a Fair but it just consisted 5 or so games like bean bag tosses and so on like that. You would set them up in your back yard. I guess you rented the games from McDonnalds for a small fee. You were supposed to host the fair to raise money for a charity like March of Dimes but I think some people had them as birthday parties instead.

So my question is this: Does anyone else remember these and can you confirm my really vague remembrances. I m not talking about having a party at McDonnalds. This is a long time before they had the party rooms.

I heard this comment the other day from a speakers I don't consider highly credible. He said, "its become widely accepted that the speed of light isn't a constant but its changing (slowing) very slightly." He went on to present some anecdotal evidence. I certainly think it would be fascinating if true but I'd never heard this before AND as I said, I have my doubts about the credentials of the speaker. Can anyone verify for me if this is an accepted fact or a cutting edge maybe or utter non-sense?

I was talking to a guy who could have potentially hired me but I got the vibe that he was trying to discourage me. So I said, "What do you need?" He replied "I have to have references." I said, "You know everyone I have worked with. Ask anyone." Then he said "I need clergy."

I don't go to church and I think he knows that. Is it legal for him to not consider me because I don't go to church? Isn't that the same thing as religious discrimination?

At the time, I didn't need the job so I took the hint and went away quietly. But the situation has changed vastly. I'm desperate now and another opening there has surfaced. I'm more than qualified. But I haven't even been called even though my resume was the first one in. I want to know if I have grounds for a law suit.

Light Photons: Particle v.s. Wave question?

I was thinking about charged solar particles coming at us from the sun and began to ask myself if their passage through our magnetic field might cause them to organize themselves into waves. Suddenly I thought about the old question about photons; particle or wave, and it occurred to me that maybe we've been asking the wrong question. Rather than asking if a photon is a particle or a wave, I'm suggesting the question should be: "Is there something about the nature of space/time that causes photon particles to organize themselves into waves?"

My first impression of this Geranium was that it's indestructible. That's because, last September, I found it having been dumped out of its flower pot upside down in a pile leaves and it was growing. I rooted it, potted it and placed it in a sunny southern facing window where it did very well all winter long producing blossoms and lots of leaves. When spring began, the plant started to fade a little and I knew it wasn't supposed to be a direct sun kind of plant so I moved it to a north facing window.

The fading has continued. In the weeks since moving it, I've cut off about 1/3 of the leaves that were turning yellow or brown. I don't know what else to do. Am I under-watering it or over-watering? Does it need special plant food?

I have two nearly identical video cameras and I want to combine video from both to make 1 3-d video. I want to try the Red-Blue kind and I know how to split video by channels. My question is what to do with the green channel? Do I keep green channel with the red or with the blue or do I split it 50% with the red and 50% with the blue?
