The desire for knowledge is a hunger that cannot be satisfied, a thirst that cannot be quenched, and a need that can never be fully filled. But it can be a very rewarding path, an enlightening path with many secrets and questions waiting to be discovered and answered. This is the path of life I walk. The pain is worth it.
Running issue?
I have a pt test next week. 2 miles in under 16:36. I ve done this before but recently I ve realized something. For the past two months I can either go really fast or really slow. I can t keep a middle pace. I just ran a 3 Mile in under 30:00 and felt fine, no heavy breathing. My shins hurt a bit though. I then wanted to see how I felt with sprints. I ran a 400m in 1:34 but my 300 and 200m at a 6:30 pace and couldn t go faster. I also felt gassed. I ran the 400m again and came in at 1:35. Why is my 400m faster than my 300 and 200m and do you think this will cause an issue for passing my test?

7 AnswersMartial Arts7 years agopulling in my abdomen?
During sit ups, I've begun to feel this pull in my abdomen. When I come up for the sit up, I exhale, but after 40+, I feel as if one of my abs is about to pop out. I'm going to ask my doctor about this but I wanted to ask if anyone else experiences this. I'm rather fit for a 22 year old male and am not doing anything exotic or quick during the movement. However, I don't want this to impede any further gains. I've had a 72 hour break since my last work put (matriarch of the family died) so unless I'm mistaken, there isn't any reason to believe I'm overdoing it. Thoughts?
2 AnswersMen's Health7 years agoOpinion on this?
Strangely...after 17 years of involvement in MA, I'm embarrassed to admit that I've never thought of shoulder checking as being a means to really hurt someone. To off balance is one thing, but to hurt...never crossed my mind. It makes me wonder if there's "shoulder checking" in kata.
13 AnswersMartial Arts7 years agoHave you ever failed to execute a technique in class as demonstration?
Instructors, have you ever failed to execute a technique properly during demonstration of said technique? Now, by fail, I mean perhaps the first time you messed up and made a mistake that didn't allow it to be properly applied, or in a worst case scenario, failed to execute the technique at all? The setting could have been class, a demo, friendly sparring or practice, etc.

Better than what goes on now? I like how he at least threw his opponents during sparring. Rarely see that in most TKD institutes.
10 AnswersMartial Arts7 years agoHow did Bassai get into the Taekwondo/Tangsoodo curriculum?
I know Bassai is of Okinawan origin but I'm unsure as to which style it was developed in. Finding the answer to this question could potentially answer another thing that come to mind:
1) Which ever TKD/TSD styles practice this form, unless it is borrowed from another curriculum, has some (if not direct) connection with an Okinawan form of Karate.
7 AnswersMartial Arts7 years agoDid you enjoy life after college?
By post college years I mean anywhere from 1-10 years after you graduated college, if you attended? I ask because this is the last term of my college career and I can honestly say I didn't find what I was looking for. I'm curious if anyone experienced the same and found their post college lives a lot more fulfilling.
It just feels as if it's high school just with thousands of more people and more liberties. It does not feel as if anyone is really taking things seriously. Curious what y'all experienced.

1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)7 years agoMajoring in a Martial Art?
The University of Seoul in Korea is the one and only school on Earth that I know of that allows students to major in martial arts, Taekwondo, being the one. While I personally hold a grudge of what the WTF has done with TKD already, going further by turning the original styles into "fraternities", I was curious of what you think of the idea of majoring in a Martial Art. Now, I know this is a Q/A site but I really want to see what others think of this. Let's say Princeton University here in the US, the University of Sydney or NZ, Toronto or Oxford in England began offering a major in a Martial art like BJJ, Judo, Greco-Roman Wrestling, Karate, etc...what would you think?
AND THEN began categorizing the styles of those terms like Kodokan Judo, Shorin-Ryu Karate, Gracie Jiu Jitsu, etc, into fraternities or sororities?
