  • why do people say that aikido does not work with out any experience of it.?

It took me about 1 year of training to realize myself that aikido is an effective martial art. All these guys here it say its bs .bet you any money they have not even trained in it to give and opinion about it. Now 5 years down the line im loving it. When we get new student or guests from other clubs i have no trouble taking their balance now i have confidence in my aikido.

  • attention aikido guys?

ive been training for 3 and a half years trying for my 3rd kyu this november. im the highest grade in class. we are a new club i was there when it was formed.

over the last 8 months we have been going to seminars and going round the local leisure centres trying to get new students. so ive been mixing in with a lot of different aikido practitioners and guys with no training at all and it's only now i feel that i could use my aikido (for real) and feel comfortable in my training. and more i train the more it make sense. its a good way of looking after/defending yourself.

    whats your thoughts

  • i visited a local martial arts club while on holiday.?

it was a kickboxing/self defence sort of club. at this club they were going through their grading syllabus. and the blue belts had to defend against some random attacks after that the attacker got into various different structures and stand still in such a way that at this moment in time the defender had to do the most suitable technique at that time

eg attacker standing in a good defensive stance and beond kicking range so the best thing that the defendant could do was walk away. then he stood really close and just to the side and have his arm out as a hook punch and the defendant steped back and turned to face the attacker an punch the face. it was all done slow and controlled.

after the class i had a chat with the instructor and he said that at blue belt you have got an understanding of basic techniques now its up to each student to show where and when to use the correct technique. so what is your views about this sort of training

  • self defence situation. what would you do? you are the man? 2 part question?

a man in a pub bumps into a girl at the bar by accident. the boyfriend sees it and shout at you. he's drunk he comes across the pub straight at you in an aggressive manner . in the little time you have .

you have apologised and said you don't want any trouble. as he stops in front of you, he raises his hand. what would you do?

    PART 1

    A) punch/push him first ready to fight

    B) do nothing try to talk reasonable. but with the risk of waking up on the floor or worse hospital because that hand came in as a sly punch.

    C) as a martial artist do you control him with a reasonable lock/hold and maybe a strike just enough to stop him.

the best thing to do would be get out of the pub but i want to see which one you choose.

    PART 2

in which point in the situation is this a fight or a reason to use yourself defence.

    A) when he shouts at you

    B) when he walks up to you aggressive as you appologise

    C) he lifts his hand (hope it just pointing)

    D) no fight happened. reason to defend yourself yet

as a wing chun practitioner my choice would be C for part 1

a lap sau to the hand and stick the palm of my hand firmly on his jaw and tell him to calm down it was an accident (hes controlled and you have moved to outside of him in safer position and in a potition to strike/block if he tryes anything else

and personally the fight or reason to defend is when A) and B) happens a threatning shout and hes coming to you.

looking forward to hearing your views

    love

and when people ask proper/ genuine questions nobody answers.

as a martial artist yahoo need to separate this section into traditional and mma

if they could not kick head height due to problems with my hips

  • how can i develop this sort of training?

this how we teach self defence in our class

e.g defence against hand on wrist

1)start of slow to remember the technique (practise both sides)

2)once you know it speed it up

3)change it from class technique to street (real life)

by starting of in a loose stance & relaxed guard

4)practise it on a level that is reasonable force.

on a drunk person just annoying/hassling you in a crowded place

get hand off kick in groin and run

5)practise it on life or death level

get hand off, lock wrist might/try break some bones, get them on floor and Still attack, (but controlled in class)
