India, a hypocrite?

Today's headline news........"Indian protesters burn effigies of Richard Gere after public kiss.....Gere swept a popular Bollywood actress into his arms and kissed her several times on the cheek during an AIDS-awareness event. "
One of many protests regarding public display of affection (PDA) in India.
Why do the conservative indian public over-react so much when their public figures show such public affections, may it even be a couple of pecks in the cheeks, while their (bollywood) movies are laced with sexuality and promiscuity?
Don't get me wrong, i grew up watching bollywood movies and am related to India but i just cannot ignore the hypocrisy. Care to comment. Thanks!
