6 AnswersMotorcycles1 decade agoSolving mixed exponential equations?
This one is a bugger
3^(x^2) + 4x = 1/27
Other then solving numerically, how can you solve this. I've tried by evaluating the first derivative and solving for x and got i.
This problem is out of a College Algebra text, and the concept of imaginary numbers has not yet been expressed.
Any ideas?

3 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoWhy does the Iraqi PM not get it?
Today, an Iraqi Justice Ministry official was arrested for releasing the Sadamm hanging video. His crime was not being complicit with the cruel and inhumane treatment of a prisoner, but taking and releasing the video of what is really going on there.
When the executioner's are chanting the name of a Shia terrorist and taunting a condemned man, the problem within the Iraqi government becomes obvious. The Al-Sadar militia has control of the Iraqi government.
So the question is why does the Iraqi PM not get this, and why does he not understand that for a democracy of any type to succeed liberty must be made equally available to all, regardless of religion, race, sex, etc?

4 AnswersMovies1 decade agoLooking for a simple code writing system and compiler?
I am modestly familiar with program creation (Pascal Turbo, FPK, and the very old GWBasic) and am looking for a simple to use, webbased if possible, code author system and compiler for some detailed calculations.
I need to perform a Newtonian Method estimation with 100 steps and a numeric integration from the estimated values.
I am not looking for lots of bells and wistles, just simply enter in two varilbles and return the final result kinda stuff.
Any ideas?

1 AnswerProgramming & Design1 decade agoDoes the US military need a draft?
After years of an all volunteer military, and the sucessfull prosecution of a war in the gulf with an all volunteer military, the new chairman of the house "ways and means" committee has promised to author a bill to return a draft. Is this a good thing?
My belief is that an all volunteer military will be stronger and more motivated since those serving want to serve. Additionally, a draft will load the military with those individuals that cannot afford or gain college admitance, and avoid the draft. Thus the lower economic classes will be again over represented, while the upper classes will avoid the military due to the stigma that a draft brings.
Please state whether you have ever served in the military or not in your answer.

7 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoDoes Pu-241 decay by alpha, beta minus, or both?
While reading an article on the adsorbtion and desorbtion of Pu in clay based sediments, the article mentioned that Pu-241 demonstrated an alpha decay. The article then discounted the presence of Am-241 parented by Pu-241, suggesting a beta-minus decay.
A quick internet search found reference to both alpha and beta-minus decays, but not suggesting both.
So which is it?
